Android Studio is one of my favorite tools, however there are a few bugs that you should be aware of. I’ll document them here for the time being or until I can find a better place for them. Hi, I’m Cliff. You’re here because you can’t get one or two things to work for you in either Android Studio or the Emulator. I’m here to specifically document and explain your pain away. Check back often as you may find more tips/tools here regarding Android, iOS or other programming technologies.
Initial App Render Fail – Upon creating a new project from scratch using A/S 1.2.3 you may notice a rendering error in the preview pane. The work-around for this is to manually build the project (Cmd+F9 on Mac), sync the Gradle project file, then click refresh in the preview pane.
Nexus 10 Emulator is stuck in portrait mode – After creating an AVD for the Nexus 10 device you may not be able to get it into landscape mode. This is a known bug. The only work around I could find is rather involved, but I’ll simplify it for you. Download the Set Orientation apk using The APK Downloader. (The link package name is “com.googlecode.eyesfree.setorientation” and the direct link is http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/?id=com.googlecode.eyesfree.setorientation) Then install the apt to your emulator using the usual “adb install” command line.
(You may also want to check out this site for details on how to install an APK from Google play directly on your AVD: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-download-apk-file-from-google-play)
